    Our Values & Ethos Statement

At South Bank Primary School, we ignite a lifelong passion for learning by nurturing curiosity, resilience, and individuality within a safe, inclusive community. We empower every pupil to grow with confidence, compassion, and responsibility, equipping them to thrive academically and socially while embracing their unique potential. Together with families and the wider community, we cultivate a supportive environment where all children are valued, inspired, and prepared to shape a brighter future.

Reading is a priority at South Bank Primary School and we place great importance on encouraging a deep love of language and literature.  Pupils enjoy reading the high-quality novels which form the basis for English and texts which classes read together both in story time and shared reading aloud.  Phonics is a priority in teaching reading and our language-rich environment is one in which the adults in school talk with children throughout the day.

    Our Core School Values

    • Curiosity
    • Resilience
    • Individuality
    • Compassion
    • Responsibility
    • Growth

Values are principles that guide the decisions we make and the behaviours we exhibit.  We encourage our children to have a strong moral code that will empower them to be lifelong learners and global citizens.

We take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously and ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school. Our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures, backgrounds and beliefs. We value the spiritual and moral development of each person, as well as their intellectual and physical growth. Visits into the local community and further afield broaden our children’s understanding of the wider world and make meaningful links with their learning in the classroom.

Personal development is at the heart of our school as it promotes and embeds a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners. It encourages our pupils to believe, achieve and succeed. It is our purposeful intent to create a place of belonging; where all our pupils feel they belong and can become the best possible version of themself.   Whilst celebrating and embracing unique virtues and qualities, our intent is that our children are informed global citizens with a respectful compassion for all.

In our assemblies, we address British Values and current news topics as well as recognise some of the international days and weeks observed by the United Nations.  We explicitly promote awareness of issues that are related to children and society. In lessons clear links to both British Values and the Unicef Convention on the Rights of The Child are made explicit.  We regularly reference the British Values of:

    • Democracy
    • The Rule of Law
    • Individual Liberty
    • Mutual Respect
    • Tolerance and acceptance of those of different faiths and beliefs

We are very proud of our culturally diverse school community so we ensure we recognise and celebrate religious festivals; including Diwali, Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Wianki and Eid.  In response to requests from our families we have established a multi-faith prayer room that can be accessed by children and staff throughout the school day.

In our celebration assemblies we celebrate the successes our children have achieved both in school and outside in the community.  Here are some of the topics we have as part of our assemblies:
