  • Nick & Sarah - SEMH Team

Social, Emotional, & Mental Health Support Team

At South Bank Primary School, we understand that children’s social, emotional, and mental health is vital to their overall wellbeing and learning success. To support our pupils and their families, we have a dedicated SEMH team committed to providing expert care and partnership.

    Our team includes:

    • Nick, Mental Health Nurse: Nick brings professional expertise in mental health, offering support and guidance to pupils and families experiencing emotional or mental health challenges. He works closely with families and staff to develop personalised strategies that promote positive mental wellbeing.

    • Sarah, Wellbeing Worker: Sarah provides practical and emotional support to children and families, helping them navigate difficulties and build resilience. She fosters a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, heard, and valued.

Together, Nick and Sarah work in partnership with parents, carers, and staff to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive both in school and beyond. We believe that strong collaboration between home and school is key to promoting children’s wellbeing and attendance.

If you feel your child or family could benefit from SEMH support, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to listen, help, and work together for the best outcomes.

Pupil Voice - Wellbeing Ambassador Questionnaire

Adults tell me that my voice is most important and they listen

If I feel worried I can talk to someone

    I always feel listened to

Sometimes I feel trapped and my voice isn't heard but I know I can talk to my teacher

We have learnt that people feel different but have the same heart

We talk about our feelings in Rights Respecting

Everyone has a right to express themselves

My teacher talks to me about my feelings and emotions

You need confidence to talk in front of the class. You just breath in and out

I have helped someone who didn't have a smile

Parent/Carer Voice - Wellbeing Ambassador Questionnaire

I often communicate with the school in regards to my children especially the one who struggles and finding change hard and the realism of having to apply for secondary place this year is causing her some anxiety. The school work with her to support her

I think Southbank Primary has a great structure in place to promote happiness. I'd suggest they continue with the team they have that promote mental health

If a child isn't happy at school they wont progress. I know my daughters are happy because they want to go to school

The mental health and welfare of the students is great. I know this because my child struggles and they support her through this. The school has a mental health nurse on staff who supports students and staff

Open door policy.  I've had to speak to staff about my own struggles and I truly believe they care

There are lots of opportunities for parents to attend workshops, meetings and our views are taken

The school supports children who suffer with mental health, anxiety and put in place strategies to help them. They are forever looking out for children and making sure their mental health is the best it can be

    Staff Wellbeing Survey

I work in a climate where emotional support is given and staff are valued for their contribution.

There are support mechanisms in place for staff who may have problems.  I don't feel embarrassed bout discussing my needs with my manager.

Staff are very supportive of each other.  We offer each other support, advice and know how to signpost them to other services.

We are a team and look after each other.

I feel comfortable about talking about my own emotional wellbeing and mental health at school.

School provide opportunities for children, parents and staff to talk about their wellbeing.  Some of the support the SEMHW team gives includes; 1:1, small group, lunch clubs, daily time to talk and yoga.

    We talk about it.

We have an SEMHW team within school; this includes a full time mental health nurse.  We have a high needs resource base in school and lots of the children have SEMH as their primary area of need.
